SERIES HISTORY
- Eagles and Cougars meet for just the second time and the second straight season
- Winthrop won the first meeting in Edwardsville, IL last season, earning a 94-82 win
- Winthrop is 6-5 all-time against opponents from the Ohio Valley Conference
THE GAME
- Both teams enter the game on losing streaks as the Eagles have lost four in a row while the Cougars have dropped six straight
- This will be the second opponent out of the OVC for the Eagles this year (Tennessee Tech on Nov. 21) as the Cougars will face a Big South opponent for the first time this year
- The two teams have combined to play 21 games this season with 13 of them on the road
- It's "Education Day" at the Winthrop Coliseum as over 4,000 students from area schools are expected to be in attendance
WINTHROP
- Head coach Pat Kelsey is in his eighth season with the Eagles (143-90)
- Kelsey is now all alone in 8th place for career wins in Big South history, just two wins behind 7th
- Have a four-game losing streak for the first time since the 2013-14 season
- The tough non-conference road schedule has come to an end as the Eagles play their final two non-conference games at home as part of a three-game home stand
- Hunter Hale is coming off a career-high 17 points with the Eagles and is now third on the team in scoring at 9.3 ppg
- Josh Ferguson continues to lead the team in scoring at 13.5 ppg and rebounding at 6.4 per game
- Ferguson ranks 7th in the league in scoring and 5th in rebounding
- Chandler Vaudrin continues to lead the Big South in assists per game (6.0) and assist/turnover ratio (2.7)
- Eagles are 2-2 at home this year and averaging 94 ppg while allowing 73.8 ppg
SIUE
- Cougars are led by first-year head coach Brian Barone (2-8)
- Barone was an assistant at SIUE the past two seasons and has also been an assistant at Green Bay, Indiana, Marquette and Illinois State
- This will mark the fourth game on the road out of the last five contests
- Zeke Moore leads the team in scoring at 12.4 ppg and is also pulling down 3.8 boards a contest
- Tyresse Williford is averaging 9.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg and 3.8 apg
- Last year against the Eagles Williford had 10 points, three rebounds against the Eagles
- Cam Williams is third on the team in scoring at 9.0 ppg
- Williams came off the bench last season against Winthrop and scored 11 points with four rebounds and four assists
- So far this season the Cougars are 1-5 on the road with a road win at Incarnate Word
HALE REACHES 1,000 CAREER POINTS
Hunter Hale surpassed 1,000 points in his collegiate career after scoring 17 points in the loss at Furman. Hale's career began at Central Michigan and this last spring Hale transferred to the Eagles from Grand Valley State to begin graduate school and arrived with 926 points in his career. This season Hale is averaging 9.3 ppg as he's started eight of the nine games he's played this season.
