  • Winthrop and Furman meet for the 11th time and the first time since Nov. 29, 2017, which the Eagles won 93-74
  • Furman won the first five meetings in the series, but the Eagles have won the last five
  • Seven of the 10 meetings all-time have been decided by seven or fewer points and two of the last three have been decided by a single point

  • Eagles have dropped three in a row while Furman enters the game with back-to-back wins
  • Winthrop ranks 2nd in the Big South in scoring and 4th in scoring defense

  • Head coach Pat Kelsey is in his eighth season with the Eagles (143-89)

  • Josh Ferguson led the team in scoring for a second straight game at TCU and is leading in scoring average at 13.7 and also leads the team with 6.3 rpg
  • Vaudrin pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds at TCU and is second on the team at 5.4 rpg and leads the team with 6.4 apg
  • Vaudrin has led the team in assists in all nine games he has played and is on pace to be the first player to average six or more assists since Mike Fayed did so in 1992-93
  • Eagles have won three straight non-conference road games against opponents in the state of South Carolina
 
FURMAN
  • Furman is led by third-year head coach Bob Richey (57-21)
  • Richey took over for Niko Medved after he took the job at Drake in 2017
  • Currently 10th in the CollegeInsider.com Top 25 Mid-Major Poll, but have spent several weeks ranked in the Top 5
  • Paladins lead the SoCOn with nine wins, are 1-of-3 teams with eight or more wins
  • So far this season Furman is 2-0 against the Big South after a 91-47 win at Charleston Southern Nov. 12 and an 84-72 win over USC Upstate on Dec. 8
  • Noah Gurley paces four players in double-figures at 15.2 per game and is shooting 58 percent
  • Jordan Lyons is second on the team with 14.4 ppg and second with 30 assists
  • Lyons had 11 points off the bench against Winthrop on Nov. 29, 2017
  • Clay Mounce is scoring 14.0 ppg and is the top shooter behind the arc with a team-high 28 threes
 
HALE HUNTING FOR 1,000 CAREER POINTS
Hunter Hale is approaching 1,000 points in his collegiate career that began that began at Central Michigan. Hale transferred to the Eagles from Grand Valley State to begin graduate school and arrived with 926 points in his career. This season Hale is averaging 8.4 ppg as he's played in seven of the team's nine games (missed two for injury). He is now seven points away from 1,000 in his career.

Joins us on Mondays at The Roasting Company throughout the basketball season will be the Winthrop Sports Show at ROCO hosted by the voices of the Winthrop Eagles Dave Friedman and Mike Pacheco. The two will sit down weekly with head coaches Pat Kelsey and Lynette Woodard as well as other selected guests throughout the season. The show is from 6-6:30 p.m. and airs live on 94.3 FM & 104.1 The Bridge.
