SERIES HISTORY
  • Winthrop and Coastal renew a rivalry that stretches back as far as 1978 with over 60 matchups as members of the Big South Conference
  • The Chanticleers moved to the Sun Belt Conference after the 2015-16 season and the two teams will square off for the first time since their departure
  • Coastal Carolina leads the all-time series 42-40 as the team's meet for the 83rd time
  • Teams last met Feb. 18, 2016 at the Winthrop Coliseum with the Eagles prevailing 79-67
  • Winthrop has won the last four meetings at the Winthrop Coliseum and are 27-13 at home against Coastal

  • Both teams coming off losses as TCU fell 80-78 to Southern California in its last game and the Eagles have dropped two straight (at #1 Duke and vs. Coastal Carolina)
  • Winthrop currently leads the Big South in threes per game at 9.2 and rank 45th in the country
  • TCU averages 9.4 per game, ranks 41st nationally and leads the Big 12

  • Head coach Pat Kelsey is in his eighth season with the Eagles (143-88)
  • Kelsey is now all alone in 8th place for career wins in Big South history, just two wins behind 7th
  • Eagles facing an opponent for the third straight game that is led by a coach that has earned Coach of the Year honors in a Power 5 conference
  • The coaches are Mike Kryzyzewski (ACC), Cliff Ellis (ACC/SEC) and now Jamie Dixon (Big East)
  • Looking to end a two-game skid and avoid three straight losses for the first time since early January of 2018
  • Josh Ferguson is coming off a career-high 32 points, which he scored off the bench and now leads the team at 13.7 ppg (7th in the Big South)
  • The Eagles offensively are averaging 78.4 ppg, tied for 2nd in the Big South while allowing 70.2 ppg (tied for 4th in the league)
  • Chandler Vaudrin is coming off a career-high 10 assists and leads the Big South at 6.4 per game and is 2nd in assist/turnover ratio
  • His 6.4 assists per game rank 15th nationally and his assist/turnover ratio ranks 25th

TEXAS CHRISTIAN
  • Jamie Dixon is in his 4th season at TCU (74-43) and 17th overall (402-166)
  • Dixon played his collegiate ball at TCU where he was an all-conference selection in 1987
  • Horned Frogs have been tough in the months of November and December under Dixon's direction, posting a combined 40-6 since 2016-17
  • Led by senior guard Desmond Bane, averaging 18.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg
  • Bane is 1-of-3 players scoring in double-figures as R.J. Nembhard is scoring 12.6 per game and Kevin Samuel is averaging 12.1 ppg
  • Bane has a team-high 22 threes followed by Jaire Grayer (18) and Edric Dennis (12)
  • So far this season the Horned Frogs are a perfect 5-0 at home
  • Forcing 17.88 turnovers per game (26th nationally) and rank 21st in steals per game (9.6) 
HALE HUNTING FOR 1,000 CAREER POINTS
Hunter Hale is approaching 1,000 points in his collegiate career that began that began at Central Michigan. Hale transferred to the Eagles from Grand Valley State to begin graduate school and arrived with 926 points in his career. This season Hale is averaging 8.0 ppg as he's played in seven of the team's nine games (missed two for injury). He is now 18 points away from 1,000 in his career.

Joins us on Mondays at The Roasting Company throughout the basketball season will be the Winthrop Sports Show at ROCO hosted by the voices of the Winthrop Eagles Dave Friedman and Mike Pacheco. The two will sit down weekly with head coaches Pat Kelsey and Lynette Woodard as well as other selected guests throughout the season. The show is from 6-6:30 p.m. and airs live on 94.3 FM & 104.1 The Bridge.
