SERIES/SUN BELT HISTORY
This will be the sixth meeting between Winthrop and Georgia Southern. Winthrop is 0-5 against the Eagles all-time. The last time these two teams met (12-18-18), Winthrop lost to Georgia Southern on the road, 64-55. Winthrop is 52-62 all-time against current Sun Belt Conference schools.
WINTHROP
The Eagles battled Wofford to the wire in their 60-59 loss on Saturday night. Senior
Miquela Santoro hit a 3-pointer to make it a 1-point game with 15 seconds to play and attempted another to win it, which was no good, as time expired. Winthrop was able to chip away at the Terrier's 11-point lead, making the fourth quarter a back-and-forth battle. Santoro led the team with 14 points.
Jah'Che Whitfield contributed 11 points of her own and a team-high six rebounds. The Eagles shot 44 percent from the field, 50 percent from three and had 22 points off the bench.
GEORGIA SOUTHERN
Georgia Southern is still looking for its first win of the season after falling to 0-4 with a 75-57 loss to Bethune-Cookman on Saturday afternoon. Alexis Brown led the Eagles with 15 points. Hailey Dias-Allen and Tatum Brown finished the afternoon in double-figures, scoring 13 and 11 each. Mya Burns had a team-high six rebounds. They were out rebounded, 40-36, and shot 32% from the field.
RILEY CLOSING IN ON 500 REBOUNDS
Junior
Anika Riley is 52 away from 500 career rebounds. In Winthrop's loss to Wofford, Riley had five rebounds and is averaging 8.5 per game. As a freshman, Riley appeared in all 30 games, averaging 5.6 rebounds. She finished with a total of 174. Riley earned Big South Freshman of the Week honors and was named to the Big South All-Freshman team. In her sophomore season, she tallied 167 defensive rebounds and 73 offensive rebounds for a total of 240, averaging eight a game. Riley appeared in all 30 games. Schaquilla Nunn (2012-15) currently holds the school record with 910 career rebounds.
