Perfect Start for Overwatch to Open Tespa Group Stage

Rock Hill, S.C.- Winthrop Overwatch kicked off their run in the Tespa Group Stage with back-to-back wins over Harrisburg University and the University of Central Florida.
 
The Eagles opened up the day with a statement win over Esports powerhouse, Harrisburg, 2-1.  Winthrop took a 1-0 lead with a win at Lijang Tower. The Storm rallied back and tied up the match at King's Row despite an incredible Quadra-kill from Andy "Flare" Le. Tied at 1-1, Winthrop won the deciding map, Dorado, with Trevor "Qwickzzz" Groshell dealing out a flank shatter on attack.  The Eagles defense was well-coordinated throughout the match, but came in handy down the stretch Frank "Shimo" Houck ended the match with a Gravitic Flux. Olivia "Kaori" Blair incredible throughout the victory and was named MVP.
 
In their second match of the day, the Eagles defeated the Knights of UCF, 2-0. The match was tight throughout; however, the Eagles consistently had the upper hand and took their second win of the day.
 
Looking ahead, Winthrop Overwatch will be back in action on October 12 with a doubleheader against Rutgers and Maryville.  All of the upcoming group stage matches will take place online with the Eagles competing from the Winthrop Esports Facility.
