Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop volleyball begins a two-week road stretch with matches at UNC Asheville and USC Upstate this Friday and Saturday. The Eagles are 10-3 overall and off to a 2-0 conference start after beating Presbyterian College and Charleston Southern last weekend. The team has now won seven straight matches and has not lost since their trip to D.C. in week 2.

A Look at UNC Asheville
The UNCA bulldogs are 6-5 overall, 1-0 in conference after a 3-1 win over USC Upstate in opening weekend. They have been led by senior right sides, Julia Borges and Ansley Rooks. Borges recorded a double-double of 13 kills and 13 digs against USC Upstate and hit at a clip of .273. Rooks had a match high 17 kills and 15 digs with an efficiency of .333.
The Eagles split with the Bulldogs in the 2018 season, losing in three sets at home but winning in four sets on the road. Winthrop leads the all-time record, 42-29.
A Look at USC Upstate
USC Upstate is off to an 0-1 conference start after their loss to UNCA and sits at 3-9 overall. Emily Russell leads the Spartans with 3.00 kills per set and a .292 attacking efficiency. Russell recorded a season high 20 kills (.643) in just three sets against Tusculum in early September.
The Eagles lead the all-time record with USC Upstate, 28-5, including two wins in the 2018 season.

Middle blocker,
Morgan Bossler, was named the Big South Player of the Week after her performance last weekend. The junior finished with a .389 hitting efficiency, 3.38 kills per set, 2 blocks per set, and contributed 38 total points. Bossler had a weekend high 14 kills (.414), against Presbyterian College on Friday and nine blocks against Charleston Southern on Saturday. The middle blocker also had 13 digs on the weekend.

Makayla Doyle holds the top spot in the conference for hitting efficiency (.359) followed by Bossler (.350). Senior libero,
Hannah Lackey, is top five in the conference for digs per set (4.00) and
Siani Yamaguchi is second for assists per set (7.76). As a team, the Eagle lead three categories: hitting percentage (.220), kills per set (12.98), and assists per set (12.10).
