Overwatch wraps up Tespa Group Stage, Wins Fall Collegiate Starleague Overwatch Tournament

Rock Hill, S.C. – Saturday turned out to be a busier day than expected for Winthrop Overwatch.  The squad wrapped up the Tespa Group Stage before entering and eventually winning the second Fall Collegiate Starleague Overwatch Tournament.

In Tespa action, the Eagles sat at an impressive 5-1 record entering their final group stage match with Northeastern University.  The team started off slowly, possibly underestimating the strength of the Northeastern squad, losing the first map on Lijang Tower.  The Eagles had previously been undefeated at Lijang Tower on the season, so the opening map loss definitely served as a wake-up call. The team rallied after the early defeat and turned in two dominant performances with wins on King's Row and Route 66 to earn the 2-1 victory.

The win clinched second place in the east region for the Eagles and has them slated to be back in action on November 9th against an opponent to be determined.

Due to the short Tespa day, the team was also able to compete in the second Fall Collegiate Starleague Overwatch Tournament.  Despite entering at the last second, the Eagles went on to win the 64-team tournament by running the table with 2-0 wins over Emory University, University of California – Davis, Seattle University, Florida Atlantic University, Auburn University, and the University of Minnesota.
