Volleyball Hits The Road For Matches At Presbyterian and Charleston Southern This Weekend

Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop volleyball is coming off a stellar weekend, with wins over High Point and Radford. The Eagles were picked to finish behind both of those teams in the Big South Preseason polls, but currently find themselves sitting alone at the top of the conference with their 7-0 mark. This weekend the Eagles will face two road tests against Presbyterian College and Charleston Southern.

A Look at Presbyterian College 
Presbyterian is on a three-match win streak with sweeps of Radford, Hampton, and a four-set win over Campbell. The Blue Hose sit fourth in the Big South with a 5-2 conference record, and 11-10 overall. 
 
Erin Eulitz was named the Big South Volleyball Defensive Player off the Week for the week of Oct 14-20. The senior, outside hitter, finished the week with 4.6 digs per set and a weekend high, 17 digs, in a three-set sweep of Hampton. Right side/setter, Erin Cooke, leads the Blue Hose offense with 3.01 kills per set and 4.65 assists per set. 
 
In their last match up, the Eagles came away with a four-set victory over Presbyterian in September of 2019.  
 
A Look at Charleston Southern 
Charleston Southern is coming off a 3-1 win over Hampton last weekend; the Buccaneers are 3-4, 11-10, and sit in sixth place in the conference standings. Outside hitter, Brooke Monssen, leads the Buccaneers and is second in the conference for kills per set with 4.04. Monssen recorded a season high, 26 kills in the first matchup with the Eagles, back in late September. The Eagles claimed the first victory against Charleston Southern in four- sets. 
 
Catching Up With The Eagles
Nikkia Benitez, outside hitter, was named the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week after her performances last week. In a seven-set weekend, Benitez tallied 24 kills (3.42 p/s), 21 digs, three service aces, and scored 29 points. Makayla Doyle and Morgan Bossler continue to lead the conference in hitting efficiency with .349 and .347, respectively. Doyle recorded a season high, 14 kills, with just one error and an efficiency of .565.
