ROCK HILL, SC - Saturday evening marks a big contest for the Winthrop women's soccer team, as the Eagles will travel to High Point, NC to take on the High Point Panthers for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Vert Stadium. Saturday's match will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
Winthrop enters the matchup in fifth place in the Big South standings with a 4-2-1 conference mark (6-5-1 overall), winners of their last four matches. The last time out for the Eagles was a 4-1 road win at Hampton in which the Eagles got contributions from four different goal scorers in
Morrison Trnavsky (1),
Natalie Royaards (5),
Alyssa Fernandez (1) and
Clara Conboy (2).
High Point currently leads the Big South, undefeated in conference play with a 7-0-1 record (8-6-1 overall). The Panthers have won seven straight contests, most recently a 3-1 road win against Presbyterian.
Last year's match between the two teams was won by the Eagles, a 2-1 victory on senior day at Eagle Field. With Winthrop trailing by a goal as late as the 86th minute,
Lexi Sheely and
Keeley Leising (PK) scored within six minutes of one another to pull of the dramatic finish. The win snapped a six-game winning streak for High Point in the all time series.
