Women's Soccer Closes Non-Conference Play With Two Home Matches This Weekend

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop women's soccer team returns home for two games this weekend, hosting Alabama A&M Friday and College of Charleston Sunday.

PROMOTIONS
This weekend is Youth Weekend with Winthrop soccer.  Both women's soccer matches this weekend will have free admission for all youth players 12 years old and younger who are in their soccer jerseys.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Winthrop went 2-1 in three road matches last week with victories over East Tennessee State and Jacksonville.  Lexi Sheely earned the Big South's Freshman of the Week award this week after she scored her first collegiate goal on the game-winner over Jacksonville Sunday.

Gabi Hull continues to lead the Eagles in goals scored, tallying three on the season.  Kelly Horan has proven strong in goal for the Eagles, allowing only five goals in the team's wins and draw while making 30 saves on the season.

SCOUTING ALABAMA A&M
Alabama A&M comes to Eagle Field Friday winless in five games this season.  Alabama A&M has been shut out in four of its five outings, netting only one goal on the season.

SCOUTING COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON
The College of Charleston Cougars have had a strong start to the season through a tough non-conference schedule.  The Cougars have picked up victories over North Florida, Coastal Carolina and Florida International and have a one-goal loss to fifth-ranked South Carolina.  Alyssa Beck leads the team with three goals and is followed closely by Laura Ortega with two.  Genevieve Henderson has earned all six decisions in goal, allowing eight goals while making 21 saves.

WHAT'S UP NEXT
The weekend pair of games wraps up non-conference play for the Eagles.  Winthrop opens Big South play on the road next Saturday, September 15 at Presbyterian at 2 p.m.
