Volleyball Sweeps Charleston Southern To Finish The Weekend

Rock Hill, SC – After losing two matches the Eagles stormed back on Saturday for a quick 3-0 sweep over Charleston Southern University (25-15, 25-8, 25-19). The win moves the Eagles to 3-2 in conference and 7-10 overall. CSU drops to 2-2 and 7-5.

How It Happened
In the first set the score was notched at eight points a piece but a CSU error and a Lou Rosario kill sparked an 8-0 run to put the Eagles up 16-9. Makayla Doyle had one block and three kills in the run. An error by CSU and a service ace from Winthrop's Hannah Lackey would end the first set, 25-15, in favor of the Eagles.

In the second set the Eagles had an astonishing 18-2 run, beginning the set 7-0 before a service error would allow the Buccaneers to get on the score board 7-1. It would be another seven points before the Eagles would allow the Buccaneers to score again, 14-2. They would only score six more times in the set as Winthrop would go on to win 25-8. Rosario had six kills and two blocks in the set and Jess Young came off the bench to add 4 kills and a hitting efficiency of .444.

The Eagles were up 16-10 in the third set but would allow CSU to come back, getting within one point, 19-20. From there the Eagles went on a 5-0 run, featuring a kill and a block from Doyle to end the set and win the match.

The Eagles were led by Doyle who had a match high 12 kills (.391), and four blocks. Rosario added 8 kills (.353) and 3 blocks. Wu had 7 kills, 14 digs, and two service aces. Madison Martin had 19 digs for the Buccaneers.
