Women's Soccer Heads to Buies Creek to Take on Campbell Saturday Afternoon

ROCK HILL, SC – Coming off a solid outing Wednesday evening in a victory over Gardner-Webb, the Winthrop women's soccer team hits the road Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest against the Campbell Camels.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Winthrop took over sole possession of first place in the Big South standings with a 1-0 victory over Gardner-Webb who had been unbeaten in the conference.  Allie Thomas' 68th minute goal stood up as the game-winner as Kelly Horan finished the evening with eight saves to preserve the victory.

SCOUTING CAMPBELL
The Camels have had a tough season, going 1-6 in non-conference contests, picking up their only victory over South Carolina State.  Campbell has been shut out in eight of its 10 contests.  The Camels are coming off a scoreless game against High Point Wednesday evening where they were held without a shot on goal over 110 minutes.  Alexa Genas has scored two of the team's six goals this season.    

SERIES HISTORY
Saturday will be the 11th all-time meeting between the Eagles and Camels.  Campbell holds a slight 5-4-1 edge in the overall series.  The two sides finished scoreless last year in Rock Hill.  Winthrop's last victory over the Camels came in 2015 at Eagle Field.

Winthrop will remain on the road for its next contest as the Eagles head to conference newcomer USC Upstate on Wednesday, October 3.
