JACKSONVILLE, FL –
Lexi Sheely netted the game-winner on her first collegiate goal Sunday and
Kelly Horan recorded nine saves as the Winthrop women's soccer team picked up a 2-1 road victory over the Jacksonville Dolphins.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Winthrop (3-1-1) started strong offensively and the pressure paid off in the 27
th minute. After
Kelly Horan made a save on the defensive end, a quick distribution led to a counterattack for the Eagles.
Katie Colwick took the ball to her feet and beat the Jacksonville goalie to put the Eagles up 1-0.
Jacksonville (0-6) broke through in the 63
rd minute. An initial shot was saved by Horan, Julianne Hutcison was there to knock in the rebound.
Freshman
Lexi Sheely pushed the Eagles back in front in the 81
st minute with her first career goal after having a quality chance pushed aside only minutes earlier. After the go-ahead goal, Winthrop didn't allow Jacksonville another attempt on goal, taking home the 2-1 victory.

Jacksonville outshot the Eagles 13-7, placing 10 of its chances on goal while Winthrop had six shots go on target. Sheely and
Keeley Leising each recorded two shots. Horan finished with nine saves in picking up her third victory of the season.
