Volleyball Begins Conference Play On Tuesday At Gardner Webb

Rock Hill, SC – Conference play for volleyball begins on Tuesday with a trip to Gardner Webb University. The Eagles are coming off a 1-1 weekend at Furman University where they lost to Appalachian State but beat the host team Furman, the SoCon preseason favorites, in four sets.

Jace Kleffner had team high kills for both matches last Friday with 14 against App State and a career high, 22, over Furman. She added one solo block, two block assists, and 2 aces to her stat sheet for a total of 40.0 points on the weekend. Kleffner led the conference with total kills and points for last week. Setter, Siani Yamaguchi, led the conference in assists per set (11.86) and was second in setter hitting efficiency at .375. Carlie Skelton continues to dominate the backrow with 36 digs on the weekend, 5.14 digs per set. Makayla Doyle and Lily Leistiko continue to control the net and come up with big blocks in key situations.

Gardner Webb is currently 5-7 after four weeks of preseason play. Last weekend the competed in the Wofford Invitational and beat Middle Tennessee in five sets and lost to Wofford in 3. They are led by freshman outside hitter, Kylee Garrison. She averages 2.39 kills per set. 

The Eagles have won 26 matches over the Bulldogs and have only lost four. They beat them twice in the 2017 season in four and five set matches.
