HIGH POINT, NC – The Winthrop lacrosse team met a tough High Point Panther squad in the Big South Championship Sunday afternoon and fell 18-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED
High Point (17-2) netted the first goal of the game 2:28 in the contest and the Eagles responded with a tally from
Katherine Judge less than two minutes later. The Panthers picked up two quick tallies that started a string of five straight goals to give High Point a 6-1 lead with 9:03 remaining in the half.
The Eagles (14-6) were able to get some scoring going over the final eight minutes as Judge,
Nicole Beatson and
Katie Clark each recorded a goal. Winthrop was matched one-for-one on those goals and the Panthers took a 9-4 lead into the break.
The two sides again traded the first two goals of the second half with Winthrop's tally coming from
Kristen Shriver. The Panthers then rattled off seven straight goals to take a 17-5 advantage. The Eagles found the back of the net twice more over the final 11 minutes as Shriver along with
Lauren Morris added goals.

Shriver and Judge each finished with two goals while Shriver also added three assists.
Alaina Girani finished with 10 saves on the afternoon.
Beatson's lone goal moved her to 90 on the season which sets the Winthrop and Big South single-season records and places her in a tie for seventh on the NCAA all-time single-season list.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Winthrop had three players named to the All-Tournament Team.
Nicole Beatson earned a spot after scoring 15 goals and adding two assists in three games.
Katherine Judge finished the tournament with eight goals and 27 draw controls to earn her spot. Goalie
Alaina Girani rounded out the Winthrop honorees as she recorded 34 saves in three games.
