ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop baseball (24-29, 15-12 Big South Conference) fell 5-1 in its regular season finale against Liberty (29-24, 17-10 Big South Conference).
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Liberty got on the board first in the 1
st inning courtesy of a leadoff single by D.J. Artis. A Jonathan Embry triple scored Artis.
-The Eagles got two baserunners on in the 1
st through 4
th innings, walks issued to
Cale Gibson in the 1
st and
Connor O'Brien in the 3
rd.
-Liberty's Brandon Rohrer belted a solo homer to lead off the 5
th. The Flames tacked on one more run on three total hits in the inning for a 3-0 lead.
-Winthrop recorded its first base hit in the 5
th as
Dillon Morton singled, but the Eagles were unable to advance the runner.
-A two-RBI single in the top of the 6
th extended the Liberty lead to 5-0.
-
Brandon Fite singled in the 6
th.
-
Jake Sullivan sent a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the 8
th, his fifth home run of the season.
-Winthrop put together two singles in the bottom of the 9
th but couldn't mount a scoring threat.

NOTABLES
-The Eagles did not record double-digit hits in any of the three games of the series, recording just five hits in the series finale.

The Eagles will head to Lynchburg, Va. for the Big South Tournament hosted by Liberty. Play begins on Tues., May 22 and full seeding and brackets will be announced by the Big South Conference at the conclusion of the regular season.
