Lacrosse Looks To Extend Seven-Game Win Streak Against Presbyterian Wednesday

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop lacrosse team puts its seven-game winning streak on the line Wednesday afternoon as the Eagles host conference foe Presbyterian at 4 p.m. at Eagle Field.

EAGLES AT A GLANCE
The Eagles picked up a victory in their conference opener Saturday afternoon, downing Longwood 20-13.  After a sluggish first half, Winthrop picked up on both ends of the field in the second half, outscoring the Lancers 11-4.  Nicole Beatson led the Eagles with seven goals in the victory while Kristen Shriver recorded five assists.
 
For the fourth consecutive week, multiple Eagles are ranked highly in statistical categories in both the Big South and the NCAA.  Beatson leads the Big South in goals (52) and goals per game (4.73) and leads the NCAA in goals per game, sitting only one goal back in total goals.  Shriver is second in the NCAA in total assists (31) and fifth in assists per game (2.82).  Katherine Judge leads the Big South draw controls per game (7.64) and ranks fifth in the NCAA.  As a team, Winthrop leads the Big South in draw controls per game (15.64) and is 12th in the country. 
 
SCOUTING PRESBYTERIAN
Presbyterian enters Wednesday's contest with a 2-9 overall record and dropped its conference opener Saturday against Liberty.  The two wins for the Blue Hose came over Wofford and Delaware State this season.
 
The Blue Hose are scoring an average of only seven goals per game.  Kelly Hyman and Sarah Marshall lead the team with 14 goals each while Hyman is tied for the team lead in points with 19 along with Lauren Schaaf who has scored eight goals and assisted on 11 others.  Kayla Koch has started nine of the team's 11 games, appearing in 10 and has allowed 19 goals per game while making 38 percent of her saves.
 
ALL-TIME AGAINST PRESBYTERIAN
Wednesday will be the eighth all-time meeting between the Eagles and Blue Hose.  Winthrop is undefeated against Presbyterian, besting the Blue Hose five times during the regular season and twice in the conference tournament.  In the five home contests, the Eagles have beaten Presbyterian by an average of 13 goals.
 
WHAT'S UP NEXT
Winthrop hits the road for the first time in conference play on Saturday when the Eagles travel to take on Radford at 3 p.m.

IT'S ON US PREGAME TAILGATE
The Office of Victims Assistance and the Dean's Office, in partnership with Winthrop Athletics, are hosting a pregame tailgate for students as part of the national "It's On Us" campaign to prevent sexual assault. Students can earn a cultural event point, a free t-shirt and enjoy free food. The tailgate begins at 2 p.m. on the practice fields beside Eagle Field.
