Kristen Shriver scored a Big South single-game record 10 goals Saturday to propel the Winthrop lacrosse team to a 23-11 victory over Gardner-Webb.

The Eagles finish the regular season with a 12-5 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the Big South. Â

Winthrop will be the third seed in the upcoming Big South tournament. The Eagles will host Longwood on Saturday, April 28 at 1 p.m. at Eagle FieldÂ

HOW IT HAPPENED
In a high-scoring first half, the two sides traded the first four goals in the opening three minutes. The Eagles then scored seven of the next eight goals to take a 9-3 lead with 15:08 left in the first half.

Gardner-Webb pulled two goals back before Winthrop went on another run. The Eagles scored six of the next seven goals, increasing their lead to 15-6. Winthrop took a 15-7 lead into halftime.

Winthrop quickly increased its lead to 10 goals only 1:10 into the second half. The Bulldogs briefly cut the deficit under 10 but a 4-0 Eagle run put the game firmly out of reach.

Shriver scored her record 10 goals on only 11 shots and also added two assists, two ground balls and three draw controls.Â
Nicole Beatson and
Katherine Judge each tallied three goals. Beatson added two assists with Judge adding four draw controls.Â
Alaina Girani made seven saves in 41 minutes in goal.

The Eagles outshot the Bulldogs 33-27, putting 29 shots on target. Gardner-Webb edged Winthrop on draw controls 20-13.
