Lacrosse Hosts Nationally-Ranked High Point Wednesday Night

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop lacrosse welcomes the nationally-ranked High Point Panthers Wednesday night to Eagle Field in a critical Big South contest.

EAGLES AT A GLANCE
Winthrop struggled with turnovers Saturday afternoon at Liberty, committing a season-high 25, losing 12-11, its first loss in more than a month.  Alaina Girani did all she could in goal to keep the Eagles in the contest, making a career-high 20 saves.  Nicole Beatson finished with six points on five goals and one assist.  Beatson is currently 11 goals and 11 points away from breaking the single-season Big South marks in both categories.
 
Multiple Eagles continue to be ranked highly in statistical categories in both the Big South and the NCAA.  Beatson leads the Big South and the NCAA in goals (67) and goals per game (4.47).  Shriver is third in the NCAA in total assists (41) and fourth in assists per game (2.73).  Katherine Judge leads the Big South in draw controls per game (7.40) and ranks sixth in the NCAA.  As a team, Winthrop leads the Big South in draw controls per game (14.80).
 
SCOUTING HIGH POINT
High Point has had a strong season, only seeing two losses to nationally-ranked opponents.  The Panthers are 12-2 on the season and a perfect 5-0 in the Big South.  High Point is riding a current 11-game winning streak.
 
Abby Hormes leads the Panthers with 44 goals this season while Brooke Stevens leads the team with 66 points on 28 goals and 38 assists.  Jill Rall has been the primary goalie for High Point this season, allowing just over nine goals per game while making 43 percent of her saves.
 
ALL-TIME AGAINST HIGH POINT
The series between the Eagles and Panthers has been back-and-forth.  High Point won the first four matches against the Eagles.  Winthrop then won the next three including two in the Big South tournament.  High Point won last year's contest. 
 
WHAT'S UP NEXT
Winthrop closes out its regular season with a road contest Saturday.  The Eagles will head to Boiling Springs, NC to face Gardner-Webb at 3 p.m.
