Winthrop improves to 12-4 when recording double-digit hits.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop baseball (17-18, 9-4 Big South Conference) opened its series with Radford (12-21, 4-9 Big South Conference) with a 6-3 victory Friday evening at The Winthrop Ballpark. The Eagles recorded 14 hits, including three multiple-base hits from senior Tyler Halstead, just one shy of their season-high 15.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Winthrop got on the board first in the bottom of the 2nd courtesy of a RBI single by Alex Raines, but Radford was able to answer with a score on a wild pitch to tie it 1-1.

-Dillon Morton knocked a double to right center in the bottom of the 3rd to bring home Mitch Spires for a 2-1 lead.

-Two scoreless frames would be broken by Tyler Halstead in the bottom of the 6th with a two-run bomb over the left field fence for a 4-1 lead.

-Brandon Fite tacked on another in the 6th with a RBI single to bring home Alex Raines. With runners on the corners, Mitch Spires sent another single into center to bring Jake Sullivan across and push the lead to 6-1.

-The Highlanders took advantage of two Eagle errors to spark their offense in the 8th, plating two off RBI singles to cut the lead to 6-3 but would be unable to mount a scoring threat in the 9th as Winthrop secured the series-opening win.
