ROCK HILL, SC –
Katherine Judge scored five goals and
Kristen Shriver totaled six points Wednesday as the Winthrop lacrosse team took down the Campbell Camels 16-9, extending its winning streak to 10 games.
The Eagles improved to 11-3 overall and remained unbeaten at 4-0 in the conference with the victory. Campbell fell to 6-8 overall and 2-2 in the Big South.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Judge got the Eagles on the board 2:23 into the contest on a feed from Shriver. After the Camels tied the game, Winthrop scored four straight goals to go up 5-1 with 15 minutes left in the first half.
Campbell pulled one goal back with 13:34 on the clock but Winthrop responded with another string of three goals, going up 8-2. The Camels tried to gain some momentum going into the break, scoring
the last two goals of the half to go into halftime with the score 8-4.
The two sides traded the first six goals of the half, to keep the Winthrop lead at four. Campbell got within three at 11-8 with 18:27 remaining but couldn't get any closer. The Eagles limited the Camels to only one goal over the last 15 minutes of the game while scoring five to take the 16-9 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Judge scored her season-high five goals on seven shots while also picking up five ground balls, corralling six draw controls and forcing three turnovers. Shriver scored three goals and assisted on three more.
Katie Clark added three goals while
Nicole Beatson and
Allie Yeager each netted two.
Defensively,
Alaina Girani finished with nine saves and picked up three ground balls.
Mackenzie Cunningham forced three turnovers and picked up five ground balls while
Emily Delauter and
Jordyn Elliott each caused two turnovers
Winthrop held a narrow 30-27 edge on shots and a 20-19 edge on ground balls. Campbell bested the Eagles on the draw circle 14-12.

Winthrop faces a tough road test in its next Big South matchup. The Eagles head to Lynchburg, VA Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest against the Liberty Flames.
