ROCK HILL, SC— Winthrop softball got back on track with two wins on the first day of the Winthrop Adidas Tournament that included a no-hitter by
Kiley Majette, Friday afternoon at Terry Field. The Eagles opened the day with a 4-1 win over Sacred Heart and followed that up with a 1-0 win over Albany.

WHAT HAPPENED
vs. Sacred Heart
- Winthrop grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Morgan Lowers singled with one out, stole second and then scored on a double by Ashley Westbrooks to right field
- Sacred Heart tied the game 1-1 in the top of the third as Stephanie Appelberg hit a solo shot to start the inning
- With one out in the top of the sixth, Blake Wallert doubled down the left field line
- Westbrooks stepped in and took a 1-2 pitch over the fence in left to break the tie and lead 3-1
- The Eagles loaded the bases after an Ansley Gilreath single followed by back-to-back walks from Kiley Majette and Rema Patel
- Madyson Watson stepped in and delivered a single to right for a 4-1 lead
- Watson earned the win in the circle as she tossed a complete game allowing one run on four hits with a walk and seven strikeouts to even her record to 2-2
- Sacred Heart's Emily Orosco suffered the loss after allowing four runs on six hits with a walk and eight strikeouts in 5.1 innings
- Winthrop finished with seven hits as Westbrooks had two while five other Eagles had base hits
vs. Albany
- Majette held the Great Danes in check while Keleigh Romine provided all the offense the Eagles needed
- It was Majette's second no-hitter of the season after it had been 10 years since the Eagles threw a no-hitter
- The one Winthrop error in the game was erased by a double-play
- The only run of the game came in the fourth inning as Romine's single scored Blake Wallert, who reached on a single and moved over on a walk by Gilreath
- That was the only inning in the game that saw a hitAlbany's Devin Durado also pitched a good game allowing the one run on two hits with five walks and five strikeouts

Winthrop is back in action on Saturday as it will face Morehead State at 3 p.m. and Norfolk State at 5 p.m.
