Men's Golf Ready To Compete In Colleton River Intercollegiate Mar. 12-13

ROCK HILL, SC— Winthrop men's golf is set to play back-to-back tournaments in the state of South Carolina beginning with the Colleton River Intercollegiate this weekend in Bluffton, SC.

Location: Bluffton, SC
Course: Colleton River Club / Pete Dye Course (Par 72, 7,180 yards)
Format: 54-Hole Tournament (Monday, 9 a.m. shotgun / 36 holes | Tuesday, 8:30 a.m./Double Tee)
Tournament Field: Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, George Washington, Iowa State, Miami (OH), #50 Michigan State (host), Oakland, #41 Penn State, Rutgers, Valparaiso, Winthrop, Wisconsin

  • Junior Sawyer Mills has qualified for the #1 position in the Eagle lineup for a second straight tournament in the spring
  • Noah Peterson was named the Big South Conference Men's Golf Freshmen of the Week (Mar. 2) as he led the team at the Seminole Intercollegiate
  • Peterson had his second-best collegiate finish at 36th
  • So far this spring, Mills leads the team with 19 birdies through two tournaments while Peterson is second with 17
  • Rohan Boettcher has qualified for the second straight tournament as he was second on the team with seven birdies at the Seminole Intercollegiate, his first collegiate event
  • Eric Gilpin leads the team in scoring average this season at 75.67 followed closely by Mills at 75.78
  • This is the Eagles first trip back to the Colleton River Intercollegiate since they won the event in 2014 by one stroke over 40th-ranked Kennesaw State
  • That year the course played about 185 yards longer than it will this year
