Men's Golf Starts Spring Season At Competitive Sea Best Inv. Feb. 5-6

ROCK HILL, SC— Winthrop men's golf opens the 2018 spring season Monday morning at the Sea Best Invitational that includes five teams ranked in the Top 25.

Location: Ponte Vedra Beach, FL
Course: TPC Sawgrass – Dye's Valley Course (Par 70, 6,873 yards)
Format: 54-Hole Tournament (Monday 8 a.m. shotgun off No. 1 / 36 holes, Tuesday, 8 a.m./Double Tee)
Tournament Field: #20 Arkansas, Campbell, #23 Duke, East Carolina, #7 Florida, Jacksonville, Liberty, Lipscomb, #11 LSU, #24 North Carolina, North Florida, South Florida, Tennessee, USC Upstate, Winthrop

A GLANCE AT THE EAGLES
 
  • Eric Gilpin led the Eagles in scoring during the fall with a stroke average of 74.58 while Sawyer Mills was second at 76.17 and Noah Peterson third at 76.67
  • In the final tournament of the fall the Eagles tied for 9th at the East Bay Deli Classic at Kiawah Island, SC
  • Mills had his best finish of the fall, tying for 8th as he bookended the 54 hole even with 73s
  • Peterson carded the lowest round of the fall with a 70 in the second round of the Louisville Cardinal Challenge
  • Winthrop placed 14th at the Sea Best Invitational as it looks to improve on that finish this week
  • Zak Butt is the only current member set to play this weekend that competed at the Sea Best Inv. last year
  • In addition to featuring five Top 25 programs, there are also a total of eight teams in the Top 50 as North Florida ranks 27th, Tennessee is 28th and South Florida is 43r
