CLEMSON, S.C. – Winthrop baseball (3-6) took No. 7/14 Clemson (8-0) to extra innings, but the Tigers would come away with a 9-8 victory in the 10
th at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
The Eagles held as much as a four-run margin, leading 8-4 in the middle of the sixth, but Clemson would answer in the bottom of the sixth with four hits and three runs to cut the Winthrop lead to 8-7. The Eagles would hold on to the lead until the ninth, when a Patrick Cromwell homer tied up the game at 8-8 to force extra innings. Winthrop was unable to get across the plate in the 10
th and Clemson came away with the walk-off win.
