DAVIDSON, NC – The Winthrop lacrosse team managed only one goal in the first half Thursday, falling 10-5 on the road to the Davidson Wildcats.

The Eagles fall to 1-2 on the season with the loss while Davidson improves to 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Davidson got on the board first before Bianca Tedesco scored the Eagles only first-half goal with 5:20 gone in the half.  The Wildcats then scored five unanswered goals to lead 6-1 at the break. 

Davidson scored the first goal of the second half to go up by six.  McKenna Blick netted Winthrop's first second-half goal before the Wildcats recorded two more.  The Eagles scored three more goals in the final 10 minutes from Blick, Nicole Beatson and Katherine Judge but the deficit was too large to overcome.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Blick scored her two goals on four total shots.  Winthrop recorded only one assist on its five goals and that came from the stick of Kristen Shriver on Blick's second goal.

Winthrop outshot Davidson 25-24 but was dominated on ground balls 30-16.  Neither squad fared well on free positions as the Eagles went 1-for-8 and the Wildcats were 0-for-5.

The Eagles will be off from competition for the next week before heading to Maryland to take on Navy on March 2.  The contest will be played at the new USL Stadium in Sparks, MD.
