ROCK HILL, SC— Winthrop placed five players in double-figures led by 16 points from
Anders Broman in a 79-64 victory over Longwood, Sunday afternoon in the Winthrop Coliseum.

FIRST HALF
- Neither team shot the ball well in the first 20 minutes but the Eagles led 32-28 at the break
- Winthrop shot 28 percent while Longwood shot 39 percent
- Winthrop remained aggressive and found points from the free throw line going 10-for-12
- The Eagles did jump out to a quick 7-0 lead as Adam Pickett opened the scoring with a three from the wing
- Then Xavier Cooks made two frees followed by an Anders Broman jumper
- After the Anders Broman jumper the Eagles went on to miss 12-of-13 shots with many of them rattling in and out
- From the 17 minute mark until just over three minutes remaining the Eagles were 3-for-19 from the floor
- Winthrop pushed its lead to seven points on a few occasions during the half but Longwood was able answer and get the game back to a 4-5 point deficit
- Both teams combined to go 7-for-30 from three
- Winthrop forced eight turnovers, but managed just four points while Longwood had four points off four Winthrop turnovers
SECOND HALF
- Longwood scored the first two points of the half to make it a two-point game
- The Eagles turned the ball over back to Longwood as it had a chance to tie or take the lead but the Eagle defense forced a turnover to hold
- That turnover led to an 11-0 run by the Eagles to open up the largest lead of the game at that point, 43-30
- The run began with an Anders Broman three followed by a jumper from Cooks
- The Eagle defense stepped up again getting a shot clock violation and then converted on the other end as Anders Broman drained a three while being fouled as he completed the four-point play for a 41-30 lead
- The run was capped by a Josh Ferguson dunk as he faked, drove the right side of the lane and flew past the defender for the flush
- The Eagles held steady over the next six and a half minutes until Longwood pulled within seven after a jumper by Glover
- But the Eagles answered right back with a corner three from Kyle Zunic
- With 7:53 to play the Eagles went on another run to put the game away
- Xavier Cooks ignited the run with a basket inside and the foul as he came out of the media timeout to drain the free throw for the three-point play
- The 9-1 run put the Eagles up 19 with 5:17 to play
- Winthrop didn't struggle making shots in the second half as it shot 57 percent from the floor and 7-for-13 from three
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Both teams finished shooting 42 percent from the floor while the Eagles were 11-for-30 from three (37%) and Longwood was 6-for-22 (27%)
- Both teams converted well at the foul line as Longwood shot 82% (14-for-17) and Winthrop shot 80% (16-for-20)
- Anders Broman, Josh Ferguson and Xavier Cooks were all joined in double-figures by Adam Pickett with 14 while Bjorn Broman added 11
- The battle of the board was close but the Eagles finished with a 36-33 edge and 10 second chance points
- Winthrop had outscored the Lancers 18-9 in points off turnovers with 14 coming in the second half
NOTABLES
- Winthrop has now won six straight home games, five straight games overall and 11-of-12 games
- This was the 10th straight win over Longwood and 4th straight at the Winthrop Coliseum
- Josh Ferguson recorded his 5th double-double of the season
- The win was the 115th under head coach Pat Kelsey
- Cooks had three blocks and now has multiple blocks in 11 straight games
- Winthrop improved to 11-2 at home on the season and has now won 54-of-62 at home
- The Eagles also improve to 18-1 all-time in home games in February under Pat Kelsey
- Winthrop has now won 15 of the last 16 league games by double-figures
- Bjorn Broman had three made triples in the game and is now just three from moving into the program's career Top 10 list
