Eagles Close Four-Game Road Swing at College of Charleston and SC State This Weekend

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop women's basketball team will finish a four-game road swing this weekend as the Eagles head to College of Charleston Thursday and South Carolina State Saturday.

WINTHROP AT A GLANCE
The Eagles are looking to snap a three-game losing skid Thursday at Charleston.  Winthrop continues to get solid production out of its young players.  Freshman Kem Nwabudu has averaged 9.5 points per game this season and has scored in double figures in three of the last four contests.  She is also tied for the team lead with 6.3 rebounds per game.  Anika Riley has had a strong sophomore campaign, averaging eight points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

SCOUTING COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON
The Cougars enter Thursday's contest with a 2-3 record, having dropped three straight.  The team's two wins have come by an average of 28.5 points while the three losses have averaged only eight points.  College of Charleston has three players averaging double figures this season.  Darien Huff leads the team with 14.2 points while Tyler Collins and Deja Ford have averaged 12 and 11 points respectively.  The Cougars are a strong three-point shooting team, knocking down better than 45 percent of their three-point attempts.

SCOUTING SOUTH CAROLINA STATE
The Bulldogs are 2-4 on the season and will play at home against USC Upstate Wednesday night.  SC State dropped its first three contests before picking up victories over fellow Big South opponents Charleston Southern and Presbyterian.  Kemoni Jenkins and Taylor Brown have led the Bulldogs offensively, scoring 11.8 and 11 points per game respectively. 

ALL-TIME AGAINST COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON
Thursday will be the 31st all-time meeting between the Eagles and Cougars.  College of Charleston has dominated the series, leading 27-3.  The two sides last met in November of 2016 with the Cougars picking up a victory at the Winthrop Coliseum.  The Eagles last downed the Cougars in November of 2013.

ALL-TIME AGAINST SOUTH CAROLINA STATE
The Eagles and Bulldogs will meet for the 22nd time Sunday afternoon.  SC State holds a 15-6 lead in the series.  The two squads met at the Winthrop Coliseum last year with the Bulldogs taking a 65-37 victory.  Winthrop's last win over SC State came in December of 2011, a 67-59 win at home.

WHAT'S UP NEXT
Winthrop will have the next week off as exams begin and will return to the court on December 9 for a home contest against the Elon Phoenix.

Every Thursday at The Roasting Company throughout the basketball season will be the Winthrop Sports Show at ROCO hosted by the voices of the Winthrop Eagles Dave Friedman and Mike Pacheco. The two will sit down weekly with head coaches Pat Kelsey and Lynette Woodard as well as other selected guests throughout the season. The show is from 6-6:30 p.m. and airs live on 94.3 FM & 104.1 The Bridge.
