ROCK HILL, SC— Winthrop men's basketball is back on the road as it travels to Cookeville, TN to take on Tennessee Tech, Wednesday evening at the Hooper T. Eblen Center.

SERIES HISTORY
  • This is the first meeting between Winthrop and Tennessee Tech
  • It is the second time the Eagles have faced an opponent from the Ohio Valley Conference this season

  • Redshirt-sophomore Raivis Scerbinskis led the Eagles with a career-high 20 points as the bench totaled 51 points
  • Senior Nych Smith continues to lead the team in scoring at 16.7 ppg and is coming off a game in which he dished out a career-high seven assists
  • Adam Pickett, who did not play against Warren Wilson, is second on the team in scoring at 13.8 ppg while Josh Ferguson is third at 13.7 ppg
  • Averaging 11.7 threes per game and has hit 13 or more threes in four of the last five games
  • Eagles are averaging 10.7 threes per game in three road games
  • Pickett leads the team in scoring on the road at 15.7 ppg while shooting 61 percent and also leads the team in assists (11) 
TENNESSEE TECH
  • Is led by 8th-year head coach Steve Payne (111-116)
  • After opening the season 0-5 the Golden Eagles earned their first win on Nov. 23 at home against Louisiana Monroe, 79-73
  • Prior to that Tennessee Tech faced Memphis, North Carolina and Michigan State on the road in three of its first five games
  • Golden Eagles are 0-1 against opponents from the Big South Conference this season
  • Micaiah Henry leads the team in scoring at 14.3 ppg while Hunter Vick is averaging 10.8 ppg
  • Henry has led the team in scoring in three games with a season-high 23 in the loss to Memphis
  • Courtney Alexander II is averaging 9.2 ppg and 9.8 rpg and has led the team in rebounding in four games while Henry led in the other two 
CLIMBING THE RECORD BOOKS
  • Bjorn Broman now has 173 career threes and is all alone in 8th all-time in program history
  • Broman is just outside the Top 10 all-time in career three-point field goal percentage at .365 (LaShawn Coulter is 10th at .373)

Every Thursday at The Roasting Company throughout the basketball season will be the Winthrop Sports Show at ROCO hosted by the voices of the Winthrop Eagles Dave Friedman and Mike Pacheco. The two will sit down weekly with head coaches Pat Kelsey and Lynette Woodard as well as other selected guests throughout the season. The show is from 6-6:30 p.m. and airs live on 94.3 FM & 104.1 The Bridge.
