2018 HOMECOMING: Eagles Host ETSU For Saturday's Homecoming Game

ROCK HILL, SC— Winthrop men's basketball is back in action Saturday afternoon at the Winthrop Coliseum as it will take on ETSU looking for a third straight win.

SERIES HISTORY
  • This will be the 3rd meeting all-time as the first two have both taken place during Pat Kelsey's tenure
  • Winthrop won the first ever meeting 76-66 in Johnson City, TN when Nov. 19, 2013
  • ETSU got the best of the Eagles in the second meeting in Rock Hill with a 69-65 victory (11/24/14) 
THE GAME
  • Eagles are looking for a third straight win while ETSU is looking to bounce back after a loss at Creighton
  • Winthrop has won two straight against opponents from the Southern Conference
  • Eagles looking for a 6th straight home win against non-conference opponents 
WINTHROP       
  • Head coach Pat Kelsey is in his seventh season with the Eagles (123-72)
  • Coming off a school record 134 points in the win over Pfeiffer as the team knocked down 15 threes and had seven players in double-figures
  • Adam Pickett leads the team in scoring at 18.3 ppg while Nych Smith is second at 17.0 ppg
  • Josh Ferguson (13.3) and Micheal Anumba (12.0) are both averaging double-figures as well
  • Keondre Schumacher played in his first game of the year and scored 13 points in 14 minutes
  • Pickett, Smith, and Ferguson have all posted double-figures in each of the first three games 
ETSU
  • Will be playing third road game of the season and are 0-2 so far with losses at Creighton and Georgia State
  • Led by 4th year head coach Steve Forbes, who is 77-31 at ETSU and 233-91 in his career
  • Buccaneers have won 52 games over the past two years and 76 in three seasons
  • Selected third in the Southern Conference preseason poll
  • Led in scoring by junior Tray Boyd III, who has come off the bench in all three games to average 11.7 ppg
  • Boyd III is 1-of-4 Bucs averaging double-figures with Bo Hodges averaging 10.7 ppg and Jeromy Rodriguez and Mladen Armus are averaging 10.0 ppg
  • Bucs offensively are similar to the Eagles in the sense of a very balanced scoring attack with seven players averaging 8.3 ppg or better (Winthrop has eight players at 8.0 ppg or better) 
CLIMBING THE RECORD BOOKS
  • Bjorn Broman now has 167 career threes and is all alone in 8th all-time in program history
  • Broman is just outside the Top 10 all-time in career three-point field goal percentage at .365 (LaShawn Coulter is 10th at .373) 
WINTHROP SPORTS SHOW AT ROCO
Every Thursday at The Roasting Company throughout the basketball season will be the Winthrop Sports Show at ROCO hosted by the voices of the Winthrop Eagles Dave Friedman and Mike Pacheco. The two will sit down weekly with head coaches Pat Kelsey and Lynette Woodard as well as other selected guests throughout the season.
