ATHENS, GA – The Winthrop women's basketball team fell on the road Sunday afternoon, 85-39, to the 14
th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Georgia (2-0) trailed only briefly as the Eagles held a 4-2 lead with 6:23 left in the first quarter. Georgia then went on a 22-2 run and held a 24-6 advantage after the opening 10 minutes.
Winthrop (0-2) played a strong second and third quarters, putting up 28 points over the middle 20 minutes while limiting the Bulldogs to only 17 points in each period. Georgia overpowered the Eagles again in the fourth quarter, outscoring Winthrop 27-5 en route to the 85-39 victory.

Kem Nwabudu and
Courtney Hagaman tied for the team lead with eight points each. Hagaman connected on three shots including Winthrop's only two three-pointers in 19 minutes of action.
Anika Riley led the team with 10 rebounds while also adding seven points.
Winthrop shot 21 percent from the floor for the game including 15 percent from three-point range and hit only nine of 17 free-throw attempts. Georgia won the rebounding battle 61-35.
WHAT'S UP NEXT
Winthrop will head back to the Winthrop Coliseum for its next two contests. The Eagles will welcome North Carolina Central on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for their home opener.
