Volleyball Scheduled For Three Matches In The Next Five Days

Rock Hill, SC – There are only two weeks left of the volleyball regular season and the Eagles will play three of their last four matches in the next five days. They are on the road this weekend with matches against Charleston Southern on Friday and Presbyterian College on Saturday. Next week they return home for a midweek match against Gardner Webb.

Last weekend the Eagles (8-4, 12-12) were swept by UNC Asheville and rebounded to win a four-set match over USC Upstate the following day. Makayla Doyle led in kills against UNCA with 10 and a hitting percentage of .200. On Saturday, against USC Upstate, Doyle finished with 12 kills (.250) and 4.5 blocks. Phoebe Wu had a team high kills 13 kills and added in 17 digs for a double-double. Setter, Siani Yamaguchi, also had a double-double with a match high 42 assists to go along with her 12 digs. Carlie Skelton led all defenders with 23 digs. 

In their first meeting of the season, the Eagles handedly beat the Charleston Southern Buccaneers (25-15, 25-8, 25-19). Since then, the Buccaneers (5-7, 10-10) have won just three of their last eight matches. Their season highlight was a five-set upset of number two, Radford. They have been led by Madison Malloch, a redshirt freshman outside hitter, with 2.53 kills per set.  

Presbyterian (4-8, 7-16) began the season 4-0, including a five-set win over Winthrop where the deciding set went 18-20. The next night they beat Gardner Webb but have been on an eight-match losing streak since then. Freshman rightside/setter, Erin Cooke, paces the Blue Hose with 2.44 kills per set, 2.84 assists per set, and 1.25 digs.
Gardner Webb (1-11, 7-18) has only won one conference match this season, a four-set victory over Hampton. The Eagles played the Runnin' Bulldogs in their first conference match of the season and won in four sets.
