SERIES HISTORY VERSUS GARDNER-WEBB
This marks the 24th meeting all-time as the Eagles hold a 16-5-2 all-time lead in the series. The Runnin' Bulldogs won last year's meeting after the Eagles had won three straight prior. Winthrop has won six straight at home against Gardner-Webb with the last loss in 2005 (L, 3-0).

THE LAST TIME THESE TWO TEAMS MET
Winthrop's 2017 season ended with a 6-0 loss at Gardner-Webb, which was the worst loss in the history of the series with Gardner-Webb and one of the biggest losses in the program's history among league games. It took Gardner-Webb only 27 seconds to get on the scoreboard and increased its lead to 3-0 in the first 30 minutes of the game (led 2-0 after 5:19). The Runnin' Bulldogs led 4-0 at the break and tacked on two more goals in the second half. Gardner-Webb had a slight advantage in shots 17-16 and corner kicks were even at 4-4. However, Gardner-Webb made the most of its opportunities.

A GLANCE AT THE EAGLES
The Eagles ended their seven-game losing streak in impressive fashion with a 3-0 road win at UNC Asheville on Oct. 6. The Eagles led 1-0 at the break and added two more in the second half. The offense generated several good scoring opportunities and nearly had a few more goals. With a season high 20 shots, the Eagles put 11 of them on frame and had a 20-8 edge in total shots. The first goal was an own goal but Leif Estevez did some good work in the box to create a good scoring chance. His cross at the near post bounced off an Asheville defender but would have found David Bryan in front had it not been deflected. Davis was part of the second goal as he slipped a ball to Brandon Anselmo in the box and he slotted it home. Estevez added another insurance goal just over a minute later as Jordi Mola stole the ball from an Asheville player in the box, served the ball to the middle that was just tipped by the goalie but not enough as Estevez ran on and placed it into the open goal. Estevez now leads the team in scoring with nine points (3g, 3a). Chandler Gaunce made his third consecutive start and made two saves to earn his first shutout as an Eagle and Winthrop's first league shutout since Sept. 30, 2017 at Longwood

WINTHROP LEADERS
GOALS: Alfie Rogers, Leif Estevez (3)
ASSISTS: Jordan Walshaw (3), Leif Estevez (3)
POINTS: Leif Estevez (9)
SHOTS: Jordan Walshaw (16)
MINUTES:  Jordi Mola (759)

A GLANCE AT THE RUNNIN' BULLDOGS
Like the Eagles, Gardner-Webb is coming off a victory. The Runnin' Bulldogs pulled off a 2-1 win over Radford at home on Oct. 3 and are now 2-1 I the league. The win ended a two-game skid of 1-0 losses (at Furman/at High Point). So far this season the Runnin' Bulldogs have a 2-1-1 home record. Joey Hack and Oskar Wang lead the team in goals with three while Wang leads the team in points with eight.

10th YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF 2008 BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP
This season the Eagles celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 2008 Big South Conference Championship team. That team survived some of the most dramatic games in program history on its way to a 15-6-1 record overall as it fell 3-1 at William & Mary in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles captured a 3-2 win at Coastal Carolina on Nov. 5 in foggy conditions as Matt Lacey's laser from 35 yards on a counter found the upper left corner of the goal with 4:16 left in regulation. The Eagles rallied in that game from a 2-1 deficit early in the second half to clinch the regular season title. In the conference tournament (Held at Coastal) the Eagles advanced to the title game in penalties against Liberty. The title game saw the Eagles steal their third title in program history against Coastal. The Chanticleers grabbed a 3-2 lead on a penalty kick in the 87th minute as the Eagles scored with just 21 seconds on the clock to force overtime and then in the 101st minute Daniel Revivo buried a service to the back post for the golden goal victory.

BIG SOUTH PRESEASON POLL
Winthrop was picked sixth in the Big South preseason poll as High Point was voted as the favorite with 7-of-9 first-place votes. High Point was followed by Radford, Campbell, Presbyterian College and Gardner-Webb. Tied for 7th was UNC Asheville and Longwood while USC Upstate was voted 9th. The top six teams at the end of the regular season qualify for the Big South Conference Tournament.

WHAT'S AHEAD
Winthrop continues its league schedule on Saturday, Oct. 13 when it travels to Buies Creek, NC to take on Campbell at 7 p.m.
