Rock Hill, SC – After three consecutive home matches the Eagles are back on the road for two contests against USC Upstate (1-3, 5-13) and UNC Asheville (0-3, 5-8). Last weekend the Eagles dropped a three set match against Radford and a five set match against Presbyterian College before rebounding to sweep Charleston Southern in three sets.

Senior Phoebe Wu (OH) had a standout game against Presbyterian with 16 kills (.310), 20 digs, three blocks, and two aces. She added another 14 digs against Charleston Southern and 12 against Radford. Freshman Lily Leistiko (MB) hit a .615 against Radford off 9 kills with only one error. She had five blocks against Presbyterian and three more against Charleston Southern with a .429 hitting percentage. Junior Makayla Doyle (MB) was the player of the game against Charleston Southern with 12 kills (.391) and four assists.

USC Upstate won their first Big South Conference match against fellow newcomer Hampton in four sets. They have lost to Radford, High Point, and Campbell in four sets each. They are led offensively by Lily Dempsey who has 2.27 kills per set and McKenna Kirkpatrick is hitting at an efficiency of .233. USC Upstate has only played twice in their programs history, splitting 1-1.

UNC Asheville is still looking for their first conference win of the 2018 season. They have lost matches to Radford, Hampton, and Campbell. Cara Guthrie is averaging 3.18 kills per set with a .204 hitting efficiency; she is ranked third in the Big South for kills per set. Libero, Madisen Zyburt is third in the conference for digs per set with 4.56. Winthrop is leading the series 41 matches to 30.
