Eagles To Battle Spartans On the Road Wednesday

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop women's soccer team makes its first trip to USC Upstate as a conference opponent Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest against the Spartans.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
The Eagles suffered their first conference loss of the season Saturday afternoon at Campbell.  Arryana Daniels netted Winthrop's lone goal in the 2-1 setback.  Despite the loss, the Eagles remain in a tie for the top spot in the conference with a 3-1 record.

SCOUTING USC UPSTATE
The Spartans enter Wednesday's contest with a 6-5 overall record and 2-2 mark in the Big South.  Upstate has won its last two contests, picking up an overtime victory over Charleston Southern and a shutout victory over Hampton.  Abbie Ellis leads the Spartans with eight goals on the season and has added three assists.  Freshman Madison McNally made her season debut on September 22 and has played every minute in the last two games, picking up both victories.     

SERIES HISTORY
Wednesday will be the fifth all-time meeting between the Eagles and Spartans.  Winthrop has a perfect 4-0 record against Upstate with two victories coming on the road.  Both of Winthrop's road victories have been 1-0 decisions while the Eagles have outscored the Spartans 8-1 in two games at home.

WHAT'S UP NEXT
Winthrop returns home for a big matchup with Radford Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.  Going into Wednesday's contests, the Eagles and Highlanders and tied atop the Big South standings.
