Eagles Fall 2-0 To Longwood Wednesday; Ashlynn Harris Makes Nine Saves in Collegiate Debut

ROCK HILL, SC – Freshman goalie Ashlynn Harris made her collegiate debut Wednesday evening and posted nine saves but the Winthrop women's soccer team fell 2-0 to the Longwood Lancers in Big South action.

Winthrop falls to 3-5-1 overall and 0-2 in the conference while Longwood improved to 6-4-1 overall and 1-1 in the Big South.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Despite outshooting the Eagles 19-6, Longwood couldn't put a ball past Harris until the 78th minute.  The Lancers' Kelly Almeida struck an initial shot that Harris saved but the ball bounced right to Emily Mothersbaugh who put the ball into the right side of the netting.

The Lancers added an insurance goal in the 86th from Kathryn Miller.  Miller had the ball near the end line and dribbled back to the corner of the 18-yard box and struck a shot that found the top right side of the goal.

STATS OF NOTE

Harris' collegiate debut in goal was an eventful one as she was required to make nine saves.  She had multiple instances where she was called upon to make two saves on one scoring opportunity.

NEXT TIME OUT

The Eagles will remain at home for their next match on Saturday when they host the Liberty Flames at 1 p.m.
