GREENVILLE, NC—Winthrop women's golf put in a strong showing in the opening tournament of the 2017 fall season as it finished 5^th in the Pirate Collegiate Classic.

• Winthrop's top four golfers for the tournament all finished in the Top 30
• Chelsea Dantonio paced the team as she fired back-to-back 74's in her final two rounds to tie for 20^th overall
• Julie Reinertsen finished tied for 23^rd as she finished with a final round 76
• Louise Jeppesen made Winthrop's biggest jump up the leaderboard on the day as she started tied for 34^th and finished tied for 29^th after a final round 75
• Ashley Sloup began her day with a hole out for an eagle two as she began the day on the 5^th hole
• Sloup finished the final round with a 75 and placed 27^th
• Sloup was 1-of-7 players in the event to record an eagle
• The Eagles battled the windy conditions on Tuesday to shoot 300, which was the 5^th best total on the day
• The winds gusted between 15-25 mph for the final round
• Reinertsen led the team with eight birdies while Dantonio was second with seven and freshman Alexis Brindley was third with six birdies
• Jeppesen was one of the top performers on par 3's at -1
• Dantonio and Jeppesen each finished with 33 pars over the 54-holes (High Point's Cayla Smith led with 37)
• Winthrop had the best finish out of other Big South schools in the event (High Point 7^th, Presbyterian College 8^th, Gardner-Webb 9^th, Charleston Southern 10^th, UNC Asheville 13^th and Longwood 16^th)
• The Eagles finished +36 as a team, which was a 40-stroke improvement from last year's finish at the Pirate Collegiate Classic

 
LOOKING AHEAD
There won't be much time to rest for the Eagles as they are right back in action Oct. 1-3 at the Starmount Fall Classic in Greensboro, NC.
