CONWAY, SC – Coastal Carolina netted two goals in a five-minute span in the first half Friday evening to down the Winthrop women's soccer 2-1 at the CCU Soccer Stadium.
With the loss, Winthrop falls to 1-2-1 while Coastal Carolina improved to 4-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Coastal went up 1-0 in the 21st minute on a goal from Daniella Famili. Famili put the Chanticleers up 2-0 just over four minutes later. Winthrop was able to pull one goal back in the 38th minute as Allie Thomas put one in the back of the net on a feed from Katie Colwick.
STATS OF NOTE
The Eagles finished with six shots and five of them were on frame. Gabi Hull finished with two shots. Goalie Kelly Horan notched two saves on the evening.
NEXT TIME OUT
Winthrop hits the road for its next contest. The Eagles travel to SC State on September 7 and return to Eagle Field against USC Upstate on September 10.
