ROCK HILL, SC—Presbyterian College completed a three-game Big South Conference sweep over Winthrop on Sunday behind a one-hit gem by Blue Hose pitcher Hayden Deal in the 3-1 victory.
Winthrop is now 16-16 overall and drops to 5-4 in Big South play while PC improves to 18-16 and 6-3 in the league.
Deal and Winthrop freshman right hander
Colton Rendon (3-3) were locked in a 1-1 pitchers' duel until the Blue Hose strung together three straight one-out singles in the top of the eighth off Rendon to break the tie.
Glen Casaceli reached on an infield single and moved to second on a single by Tyler Weyenberg. Cletis Avery followed with an RBI single to score Casaceli with what proved to be the winning run. Left-handed reliever
Thad Harris came on to face AJ Priaulx and was greeted with another single to plate Weyenberg.
Deal, who evened his record at 3-3, gave up Winthrop's only run and hit in the fifth inning. He struck out seven and walked just one Eagle batter. Rendon allowed six hits in his 7.1 innings of work.

Babe Thomas sacrificed Lipscomb to second and
Grant English delivered the RBI single to score Lipscomb and tie the game at 1-1. PC had taken a 1-0 lead in the second inning on back-to-back singles by Priaulx and Nick Wise, a sacrifice bunt by T.J. Richardson, and sacrifice fly by Andrew Bladt.
Winthrop will host The Citadel on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and then will travel to Lynchburg, VA this week to take on the Liberty Flames in a three-game conference series beginning on Thursday night and continuing through Saturday.
