ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop Baseball was shutout by Presbyterian College 5-0 on Friday in the opener of a three-game Big South Conference series at The Winthrop Ballpark.
The Eagles are now 16-14 overall and 5-2 in conference play while PC evens its overall record at 16-16 and improves to 4-3 in league play. The two teams will square off again on Saturday at 2 p.m. as the Eagles will send
Nate Pawelczyk to the mount against Blue Hose starter Tanner Chock.
Senior
Anthony Paulsen led the Eagles at the plate with a one for two performance to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. He also reached base two more times after being hit by a pitch. Senior
Babe Thomas also had a 1 for 2 night with two walks.
Winthrop senior right-hander
Reece Green suffered the loss to even his record at 3-3 as he threw seven innings and allowed five runs on nine hits. PC starter Brian Kehner (3-1) earned the win as he pitched seven innings and gave up five hits.
The Blue Hose scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the third as they touched up Green for two singles, two walks, one hit batter, and a big double to left center.
