OMAHA, NE – The Winthrop Baseball team defeated Creighton 2-1 to capture the three-game series, Sunday afternoon at TD Ameritrade Park.
The Eagles improve to 15-13 overall while Creighton falls to 8-14 on the year. Winthrop will be back in action Tuesday at Charlotte beginning at 6 pm and Wednesday at home against Charleston Southern beginning at 6 p.m.
Junior
Riley Arnone (2-1) earned the win as he pitched 2.2 innings of relief, allowing one run on one hit. The Eagle's sophomore
Dalton Whitaker earned his third save as he recorded five outs for the save. The Blue Jays Keith Rogalla (1-2) suffered the loss as he threw 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits.
Senior
Anthony Paulsen led Winthrop at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with two singles, freshman
Scout McFalls was 1-for-4 with an RBI, and sophomore
Matthew Mulkey went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Winthrop scored both of its runs in the top of the second as sophomore
Hunter Lipscomb and Senior
Babe Thomas started the inning drawing walks. Lipscomb advanced to third on a fielder's choice by Mulkey. Sophomore
Jake Sullivan walked to load the bases and then Lipscomb scored when McFalls also walked. Mulkey made it 2-0 in favor of the Eagles when he scored on a wild pitch by Rogalla.
Creighton scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth as Michael Emodi started the inning off with a double to right field, advanced to third on a fly out by Riley Landuyt to center, and scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Bryce Only.
