CLINTON, SC – Katherine Judge scored six goals and Nicole Beatson tallied nine points Wednesday as the Winthrop lacrosse team earned its second straight conference victory with a 19-7 win on the road over Presbyterian.
The Eagles improved to 5-9 overall and 2-2 in the conference with the win while the Blue Hose fell to 1-3 in the Big South and 2-10 overall.
After a slow start offensively, the Eagles found themselves up only 4-3 with 13:39 left in the first half. Winthrop then went on a scoring tear, rattling off five straight goals while also clamping down on the defense, not allowing Presbyterian another goal in the first half. The Eagles took a 9-4 lead into the break.
The momentum for the Eagles continued into the start of the second half as Winthrop scored the first three to go up 12-4. After the Blue Hose pulled one goal back, the Eagles again scored five unanswered to take a commanding 17-5 lead and went on for the 19-7 victory.
Judge tallied her six goals on 11 shots while also leading the team in draw controls with eight. Beatson added four goals while also assisting on five others. Chloe Wormsley finished the game with seven saves while also leading the team with nine ground balls.
Winthrop fired 41 shots while limiting Presbyterian to only 20. The Eagles dominated on the draw 21-7 and the two sides were even on ground balls with 25 each.
The Eagles round out their road games for the season with a 2 p.m. contest at Longwood on Saturday.
