Erica Williams Closes Home Career With 22 Points and 10 Rebounds, but Eagles Fall 70-58 to CSU

ROCK HILL, SC—Senior Erica Williams had game highs with 22 points and 11 rebounds in her final appearance in the Winthrop Coliseum, but the Eagles dropped a 70-58 Big South Conference decision to Charleston Southern on Saturday afternoon.

Williams was honored along with teammate Cii Cii Buford during the pre-game Senior Day recognition, Winthrop trailed the entire game, but managed to pull to within two points at 48-46 to close the third quarter.

Charleston Southern opened the fourth quarter with a 12-4 run to take its first double digit lead of the game at 60-50 with 5:12 left to play and breezed to the win.  CSU led by as many as 14 points at 68-54 with 1:32 remaining in the game.

The loss extended Winthrop's losing streak to 11 in a row and ends the regular season for the Eagles at 2-28 and 1-17 in Big South play.  CSU improved to 17-12 overall and 11-7 in conference.  Winthrop will now need to wait until Sunday's release of the women's basketball RPI report that will determine the final seeding for next week's Big South Conference Championship in Lynchburg, VA.  Winthrop and Longwood ended the season with identical conference records and the first tie breaker is the RPI.
