OMAHA, NE – The Winthrop baseball team fell 7-1 at Creighton after it posted a five-run fourth, Friday night at TD Ameritrade Park.
The Eagles (13-13) have lost two straight after winning five in a row, while Creighton (8-12) has now won three in a row. Winthrop will have sophomore
Nate Pawelczyk on the mound tomorrow as the Blue Jays have Jeff Albrecht on the mound with the first pitch scheduled for 2 pm.
Winthrop's
Reece Green (3-2) suffered the loss as he threw six innings, allowed seven runs (five earned) on eight hits while striking out six. The Blue Jays Rollie Lacy (2-2) pitched 7.2 innings, allowed one run on eight hits while striking out seven.
Senior
Anthony Paulsen led the Eagles at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with a double and two singles. Sophomore
Hunter Lipscomb went 1-for-4 with an RBI and sophomore
Grant English went 2-for-3 with a single and a double.
Winthrop got on the board in the top of the first when it started the inning with a single, hit by a pitch, followed by another single. Freshman
Scout McFalls scored on a fielder's choice by sophomore
Hunter Lipscomb.
Creighton scored five in the bottom of the fourth which started off with a solo home run by Thomas Luevano, With two on and one out the Blue Jays hit a single, a double, and a single to make the score 5-1. The Blue Jays added insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
