ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop baseball team won its third straight game with a 7-3 Big South Conference victory over High Point on 7-3 Friday night at The Winthrop Ballpark.
The Eagles (11-11, 3-1 BSC) will be looking to sweep High Point (10-10, 1-3 BSC) on Saturday when the two teams meet for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
Reece Green (3-1) had his second straight eight-inning performance as he earned the win while allowing three runs on eight hits and striking out four. The Panthers' Andrew
Gottfried (1-2) suffered the loss as he allowed three runs on five hits in 2.1 innings.

Mitch Spires extended his hitting streak to 15 games as he went 2 for 3 with two singles and two runs scored to lead the Eagles' 10-hit attack. Sophomore
Hunter Lipscomb was one for one and had two RBI as everyone in the starting lineup had at least one hit in the game.
Winthrop took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and was never tied or trailed the rest of the game. The Eagles opened the game with back-to-back singles by freshman Scout

Winthrop added another run in the second when sophomore
Grant English began the inning with a double to right, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore
Jake Sullivan, and scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Matthew
Mulkey.
High Point got on the board in the top of the fourth when Jordan
Sergent and Carson Jackson had back-to-back singles into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Hunter Lee.
Sergent scored on an infield groundout by Blake
Schunk and Jackson came home on a single by Spencer Brown to trim the Winthrop lead to 3-2.
Winthrop added insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings when Sullivan's triple drove home
Mulkey in the bottom of the fourth. The Eagles added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the seventh to make it 7-2
High Point scored in the top of the eighth on a solo home run by Jackson.
