COOKEVILLE, TN – The Winthrop women's basketball team finished its non-conference schedule Tuesday afternoon with a 70-41 loss on the road to the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Winthrop (1-10) grabbed the first five points of the contest and never trailed in the opening quarter. Tennessee Tech closed the quarter on a 4-0 run to tie the game at 10-10 after the opening 10 minutes. The two sides traded the lead in the first three minutes of the second quarter before the Golden Eagles went on a 19-3 run to take a 34-20 lead into the break.
Tennessee Tech (3-7) increased its lead to as much as 26 in the third quarter. The two sides traded buckets over the last four minutes and the Golden Eagles held a 56-32 lead after three quarters and went on for the 70-41 victory.

Courtney Hagaman and Airneisha Gamble tied for the team lead with 10 points each while Hagaman also grabbed six rebounds. Ronata Rogers led the Eagles with seven rebounds while contributing eight points.
Winthrop connected on 28 percent of its shots from the floor while Tennessee Tech shot 43 percent from the field. The Eagles put up a season-low nine three-point attempts, connecting on three while the Golden Eagles put up 21, hitting 10. Tennessee Tech outrebounded Winthrop 46-36.

Winthrop will have a two-week break before entering conference play. The Eagles will open Big South play on the road on January 2 at Radford before hosting Campbell on January 6.
