Men's Hoops Faces First Road Test At Colorado State Tuesday Night

ROCK HILL, SC— Winthrop men's basketball looks to bounce back Tuesday evening when it travels to Colorado State in its first road test of the season. Game is set to tip at 9 p.m. (EST).

THE GAME
  • Winthrop dropped its season opener against Southern Illinois (81-66) as it looks to bounce back
  • Colorado opened the season with a 72-61 home win over Sacramento State
  • This will be the first time the Eagles have played in the state of Colorado since the 2008 NCAA Tournament as they took on Washington State at the Pepsi Center in Denver
  • Winthrop is 14-25 all-time in their opening road game of the season, but have won the last three
  • The first time the Eagles played in Colorado was Jan. 3, 1987 at Air Force 
WINTHROP       
  • Xavier Cooks led the Eagles in scoring in the opener with 14 as he also tied for a team-best eight rebounds
  • Cooks did not attempt a three-point shot for the first time in the last 49 games
  • The Eagles were just 7-for-23 (30.4%) in the second half against Southern Illinois
  • Winthrop went to the line 27 times, but finished 18-for-27

  • Nico Carvacho pulled down 15 rebounds in the game while Bob Che had 10

Every Thursday at The Roasting Company throughout the basketball season will be the Winthrop Sports Show at ROCO hosted by the voices of the Winthrop Eagles Dave Friedman and Mike Pacheco. The two will sit down weekly with head coaches Pat Kelsey and Lynette Woodard as well as other selected guests throughout the season. The show is from 6-6:30 p.m. and also airs on 94.3 FM & 104.1 The Bridge.
