ORANGEBURG, SC – The Winthrop Volleyball team defeated South Carolina State 3-1 on Tuesday at the Dukes Gymnasium.

EAGLES HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore Sydney Gunter led the Eagles with 13 kills and .409 hitting percentage
- Senior Keaupono Fey also helped the Eagles when she had 12 kills and .333 hitting percentage
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
- Both teams kept it close until Winthrop went on a 6-0 run to make it 14-6
- Winthrop finished on a 15-5 run to win 25-11 with junior Marion Vaucher having 4 kills
Set 2
- The Eagles started the set with a 5-1 run with South Carolina State having three attack errors
- The Bulldogs fought back to tie it at 6-6 and kept it close until Winthrop went on a 5-0 run to make it 20-14
- South Carolina State worked it back to take it 21-21 and eventually the lead and won 25-23
Set 3
- Winthrop started the set slow and was down 6-3 but came back to tie it at 6-6
- The Eagles took the lead and never looked back as they won the set 25-16
Set 4
- Winthrop started the set on a 10-3 run with four straight service aces by sophomore Hanna Spevak
- The Bulldogs came back to tie it at 12-12
- The Eagles finished on a 13-9 run to win 25-21
