ROCK HILL, SC – Winthrop volleyball will return to conference play this weekend as the Eagles host Campbell on Friday and High Point on Saturday.
Winthrop enters the weekend with an overall 8-8 record and a 0-1 mark in the Big South, falling to Gardner-Webb in the team's only conference contest.
The Eagles are coming off a 3-0 victory over NC Central last Friday evening. Brianna Gray had a stellar outing, totaling 12 kills and a career-high .733 attack percentage. Sydney Gunter also posted 11 kills.
The Campbell Camels come to the Winthrop Coliseum Friday for the 7 p.m. contest with a 6-10 overall record and a 1-1 record in the conference. Last weekend Campbell downed Asheville and fell to Radford at home. Senior Loni Kreun has led the Camels offensively, averaging 2.57 kills per set. Summer Schuitema is the team's primary setter, averaging six assists per set.
High Point comes to Winthrop for a 4 p.m. contest Saturday with an 11-5 overall record and a 2-1 Big South mark. The Panthers dropped their first conference match of the season to Radford and rebounded to defeat Liberty and UNC Asheville. Hayley Barnes has led the team in kills, averaging 3.35 per set. Molly Livingston has been strong at the net on both sides of the ball, averaging 2.53 kills per set and 1.02 blocks per set.
Following the home weekend, the Eagles will hit the road again next weekend, traveling to Radford and Liberty for Big South contests.
