Women’s Soccer Fall to Radford 5-2

ROCK HILL, SC – The Winthrop women's soccer team lost its Big South Conference opener at home on Saturday against Radford 5-2.

The Eagles will be back at home on Wednesday September 28th when they host High Point at 6:00 p.m.

The Eagles record is now 3-6 (0-1) for the season and they fall 5-7-3 all-time against Radford. Head Coach Spencer Smith is now 4-3 in Big South openers at Winthrop.

Radford started off the scoring in the 16th minute when Jasmine Casarez shot from 6-yards out landed in the back of the net. Radford would keep it going in the 22nd minute when Nelia Perez scored from the right corner of the box to the back of the net.

In the 34th minute, Radford went up 3-0 after Nicole Ray scored from the 6-yard box. In the 62nd minute Jessica Wollmann ricochet shot off a Winthrop defender gave Radford at 4-0 lead.

Radford continued scoring in the 66th minute when Miranda Carlson scored off an assisted by Hannah Duff.

Winthrop got on the board in the 80th minute when freshman Keeley Leising scored her fourth goal of the season as she was set free in the box off a pass from Natalie Royaards.

Winthrop added its second goal in the 90th minute when freshman Greta Conboy scored her third goal of the season off an assisted by Emily Crick.
